Salary Range$51,025.56 - $68,132.47Posting ExpiresUntil Filled.General Description And Classification StandardsThe purpose of this job is to inspect construction job sites and approved plans to ensure compliance with regulatory codes, ordinances, and laws. Duties include, but are not limited to: reading fire sprinkler plans and specifications and inspecting installation at job site to be in compliance with plans and regulatory codes, ordinances and laws; assisting fire sprinkler installers with NFPA code conformation; answering inquiries regarding construction materials and procedures; explaining departmental procedures; and processing paperwork.Supervision ReceivedWork independently or in teams, reporting to the Assistant Director.ResponsibilitiesPerforms skilled inspection work in the enforcement of municipal ordinances and regulations governing the installation and modification of Water-Based Fire Protection Systems, Foam water systems, FM200 systems, and Halon systems.Performs review to ensure fire sprinkler, fire pumps, backflow preventer, and standpipe installations are in compliance with approved plans, specifications, and City of Atlanta codes and regulations regarding NFPA13,13R,13D,14,20,25, and72 installations requirements.Investigates suspected unlicensed installers or unpermitted work.Assists a high volume of fire sprinkler installers and customers in ensuring conformance with NFPA13,13R and13D installation requirements and regulations.Confers with supervisor, inspectors, contractors, the general public and others regarding code interpretations and related issues.Provides code interpretation or other assistance to contractors, engineers, the general public, and others as necessary at job sites.Studies, interprets, and ensures fire sprinkler/suppression systems are adhered to in designs.Has considerable knowledge of hydraulics, hazard evaluation, detection systems, fire sprinkler control valve assembly, standpipe design, wet pipe systems, deluge systems, dry pipe systems, pre‑action systems, foam water systems, FM200 systems, Halon systems, EFSR systems, as well as NFPA13,13R and13D installation requirements.Maintains accurate records and inspection documentation of assigned work.Accurately answers inquiries from customers on site regarding construction methods, procedures, and materials used.Explains departmental procedures to customers to facilitate permit issuance and directs customers to appropriate divisions for requested services.Comprehends, interprets, and applies code regulations.Compiles, organizes, prepares, and maintains a range of records, reports, and information.Performs mathematical calculations required by the job.Utilizes and understands computer applications and techniques required by the job.Plans, organizes, and prioritizes daily assignments and work activities.Works under a minimum degree of stress related to duties that require constant attention to detail and tight deadlines.Is able to lift a minimum of 40 pounds without assistance.Is able to stand, or climb stairs and ladders for an extended period of time.Possesses effective written and oral communication skills.Possesses effective organizational skills.QualificationsRequires a high school diploma or equivalent.Must be able to obtain a NICETII Certification.Minimum of 5 years of experience in plan review and 2 years of inspection experience in fire sprinkler hydraulics, hazard evaluation, detection systems, fire sprinkler control valve assembly, standpipe design, wet pipe systems, deluge systems, dry pipe systems, pre‑action systems, foam water systems, FM200 systems, Halon systems, EFSR systems, as well as NFPA13,13R and13D installation requirements.
