Description:
The Respiratory Therapist II is responsible for medication administration and implementing respiratory care based on expanded knowledge and experience.
The RT II delivers patient care in complex, multiple problem-patient scenarios.
The majority of time will be spent in critical care areas, managing protocol ventilators, requiring significant independent decision-making and self-direction.
In addition to patient care delivery, the RT II is responsible for patient, family, and support system education.
Coordination of activities, staff development, and professional self-development are also key responsibilities of the RT II.
The RT II provides patient care with an understanding of population-specific needs.
This role addresses biological, emotional, developmental, psychosocial, and patient/family education needs when providing care to the patient.
The RT II participates in the education of new employees and others as necessary.
Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Completion of patient care, documentation, and education.
Adopts a team approach to service and promotes a positive work environment.
Provides a supportive environment for students and staff.
Performs patient assessments and assessments for therapy.
Collaborates with healthcare team members in planning patient care.
Verifies orders and administers aerosolized medication, bronchial hygiene, volume expansion, and oxygen and medical gas therapy.
Manages ventilator support, including weaning and wave form graphic interpretation.
Handles airway management, including intubation, extubation, and tracheostomy care.
Performs arterial blood gas sampling and analysis.
Educates patients and mentors/precepts new employees, students, and peers.
Assists in invasive and non-invasive procedures as necessary.
Promotes current and accurate electronic ordering, charting, and charging practices.
Enhances patient safety and participates in performance improvement initiatives designed to improve quality care.
Engages in evidence-based practice and reviews revised and new departmental policies.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Complies with all organizational policies and standards of work.
