We are seeking an experienced Civil/Structural Department Manager to provide leadership, strategic direction, and operational oversight for a growing Transmission & Distribution (T&D) Substation Civil/Structural team in the Southeast Region.This individual will be responsible for managing department operations, supporting business growth, developing technical talent, and ensuring the successful delivery of engineering projects. The role requires a strong combination of technical expertise, leadership capability, client relationship management, and business development experience.The successful candidate will work closely with regional and business line leadership to support the continued growth and success of the T&D Substation practice.Key Responsibilities Leadership & Team DevelopmentLead and manage a Civil/Structural Engineering Department supporting utility and substation projects.Foster a culture centered around safety, quality, collaboration, and client service.Recruit, mentor, develop, and retain top engineering talent.Support career development planning and performance management for department staff.Conduct annual performance reviews and provide ongoing coaching and feedback.Support diversity, inclusion, and employee engagement initiatives.Operational ManagementManage department workload, staffing assignments, and resource planning.Ensure efficient utilization of personnel while maintaining project quality and profitability.Coordinate with regional and national engineering teams to balance resources and project needs.Develop and manage departmental budgets, training programs, and capital expenditures.Monitor project performance and proactively address schedule, budget, quality, or staffing concerns.Business Development & GrowthSupport the execution of regional business growth strategies.Identify new project opportunities and assist with pursuit decisions.Build and maintain strong relationships with utility clients, partners, and industry stakeholders.Participate in proposal development, project pursuits, and client presentations.Support sales, revenue, utilization, and profitability objectives for the department.Technical LeadershipServe as a senior technical resource and advisor on complex civil and structural engineering projects.Provide oversight and guidance on substation civil/site design and structural engineering activities.Support technical quality reviews and engineering best practices.Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on design tools, workflows, and project execution efficiency.Collaborate with civil and structural leaders across multiple offices and regions to share best practices and technical expertise.Serve as Project Manager on strategic or high‑profile projects when required.Support successful project execution through all phases of planning, design, and construction.Ensure projects meet schedule, budget, quality, and client satisfaction goals.Qualifications required Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, Environmental Science, or a related discipline from an accredited institution.Minimum 5 years of relevant professional experience.Strong understanding of civil and structural engineering principles related to electrical substations and utility infrastructure.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving abilities.Ability to lead teams and manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.Civil Site Design experience within the utility, energy, or transmission and distribution sectors.Previous department management, team leadership, or supervisory experience.Professional Engineer (PE) License or ability to obtain licensure within 12 months.Experience supporting utility, transmission, and substation projects.Key Areas of Expertise Electrical Substations.Transmission & Distribution Infrastructure.Utility Projects.Project Management.Business Development.Resource Planning.Why Consider This Opportunity?
