Description:
Must be flexible with work hours to meet department needs.
Must be dependable, accountable, and cooperative.
Assists with providing safe, age-appropriate care to the patient by performing all exams according to department procedures.
Has the knowledge and ability to properly and safely obtain a quality diagnostic study.
Responsible for performing a wide variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative in the utilization of equipment for the diagnosis and/or treatment of diseases.
Able to independently perform job functions.
Sets up equipment to provide imaging service and positions patients for procedures.
Equipment:
Demonstrates the ability to adjust technique to ensure the patient receives the lowest possible dose of ionizing radiation while maintaining image quality.
Reports problems regarding malfunctioning equipment to the supervisor or service provider to correct issues promptly.
Cleans, disinfects, and maintains equipment in accordance with infection control policies and department cleaning schedules.
Patient Care:
Verifies proper clinician orders for procedures.
Obtains complete clinical history, gathers examination data, and assesses for contraindicating conditions.
Follows established procedures for the administration of contrast media to avoid deterioration in patient condition and undue pain.
Ensures all studies have proper patient identification and appropriately utilizes right and left markers.
Reviews CT/radiographic images for clinically acceptable results and releases patients.
Responds to emergency situations and manages the restocking of the crash cart and maintenance of life support equipment.
Observes patient condition and evaluates situations for necessary physician intervention to prevent deterioration.
Verifies the correct identity of patients using two unique identifiers prior to performing procedures.
Ensures patient's privacy and comfort is accommodated.
Maintains patient dignity throughout the exam/procedure.
Demonstrates competence in determining and applying appropriate procedures, equipment, supplies, and techniques based on patient age.
Organizes schedules and priorities to accomplish required activities within designated time frames.
Follows physician instructions when assisting with procedures and exams.
Demonstrates proficiency with loading and operating power injection equipment.
Uses critical thinking skills.
Engages with patients and families, asking clarifying questions and seeking clarification on ambiguous orders.
Understands, demonstrates, and documents the preprocedural verification and Time Out process when appropriate.
Demonstrates and understands pre-and-post procedural care.
Prepares patients for procedures.
Demonstrates and understands sterile technique.
Maintains competency in venipuncture.
Education and Communication:
Patiently and clearly explains the purpose and nature of exams to patients before procedures to minimize anxiety and facilitate cooperation.
Ensures that patient's questions, concerns, or contraindications are satisfactorily addressed, notifying the physician when this cannot be accomplished before starting the procedure.
Participates in the orientation and training of departmental employees.
Provides patients with preparatory instructions and explanations of procedures.
Required documentation is concise, legible, and includes precise terminology.
Reads email daily and follows through with assigned tasks.
Completes mandatory departmental and hospital-wide education without prompting.
Quality Control:
Consistently produces acceptable images, as evidenced by feedback and quality audits.
Ensures that equipment is fully operational prior to each use by checking for proper calibration and operating deficiencies.
Sends all studies to the PACS immediately after completion and prints CDs as needed.
Completes all studies in the RIS before finishing in PACS.
Prints completed log sheets and submits them as applicable.
Operations:
Restocks linens and supplies, maintaining the department in clean and orderly condition.
Transports and positions patients, assisting them on and off procedure tables.
Performs patient charging activities on the service date.
Applies shielding, supportive, and immobilization devices and equipment.
Lends knowledge and assistance to others as needed.
Performs routine clerical and support duties as necessary to ensure continuity and quality of services.
Keeps the supervisor informed on responsibilities, ensuring prompt notification of problems or potential issues.
Maintains an individual productivity rate equal to peers.
Operates all workstations associated with CT department efficiently.
Maintains Joint Commission standards and other regulatory agency standards.
Takes call when necessary.
Performs any other duties as assigned.
Complies with all relevant policies, standards of work, and codes of conduct.
