Provide leadership to effectively plan, coordinate and implement programs of instruction that ensure students opportunities to reach their highest social, emotional and academic potential. Meet and instruct assigned classes in the location and at the time designated. Select and present materials required in the teaching assignment within the framework of the content limitations of state and system curriculum guides. Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of assigned students. Develop and implement classroom technology which may relate to the use of audio, video, graphics, research technologies and other tools to facilitate learning. Prepare for classes assigned and show evidence of preparation upon request of principal or designee. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. Provide adequate background information and materials when substitute teacher is to assume responsibilities. Maintain satisfactory attendance defined by system or local school handbook. Comply with all conditions stated in contract of employment. Comply with the federal, state and local board of education requirements for the development of educationally appropriate instruction. Assist the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct and work cooperatively with all staff members in attaining school goals and objectives. Develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedures and maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner. Attend staff, department, team, or grade level meetings and serve on staff committees as required. Participate as required in the appropriate state annual evaluation process. Perform such additional responsibilities as may be assigned by the building administrators.
Additional responsibilities include abiding by the mandates of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). Evaluate students with disabilities and provide recommendations for a prescriptive program. Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in accordance with state and federal requirements. Monitor progress on IEP goals frequently and make appropriate changes in the student's education program as warranted. Maintain strict confidentiality of all student information. Participate in and provide consultation to the Student Support Team (MTSS) and the IEP team. Collaborate with general and special education teachers, related service providers and parents regarding the academic achievement, social/emotional learning and functional performance of assigned students. Able and willing to participate in district Mindset Safety Management - De-escalation training and utilization of techniques according to individual student needs. Provides consultation to other staff members concerning the unique needs of students with disabilities and appropriate interventions. Follows all procedural safeguards and documents adherence in an appropriate manner. Attend ISC meetings and disseminate information to school staff. Assist special education teachers with IEP development, data collection procedures and caseload timeline management. Assist in the scheduling of students and case manager assignments. Coordinate the distribution of classroom accommodations, supplementary aids and services and behavior intervention plans for students with disabilities. Coordinate the completion of 10 day counts and FTE counts. Ensure compliance by running GOIEP reports and sharing with staff. Ensure timeline compliance of all initial and reevaluations.
Minimum of Associates degree from an accredited college or university and state required certification. Ability to organize, coordinate, plan, and direct the implementation of a comprehensive classroom instructional program for students with disabilities. Proficiency required in oral and written communication, interpersonal relations, and competency in counseling and evaluating students with disabilities.
