Position Information Under general supervision, performs technical duties in public life safety and community risk reduction to all citizens and visitors within Cobb County. The primary purpose of this position is to enhance public safety awareness and education through a variety of channels and methods. As a crucial part of the community outreach team, the Fire Educator Technician plays a pivotal role in disseminating life-saving information, recruiting the next generation of firefighters, and serving as a liaison between the fire department and the general public.
Essential Functions Functions in an entry-level capacity through on-the-job training and participation in in-house and related training to learn and master the essential function of fire and life safety education.
Effectively deliver fire and life safety information to various audiences including but not limited to community members, school groups, and department personnel.
Build and maintain relationships with community stakeholders, organizations, and local agencies to promote fire safety and public education initiatives.
Ensure that educational materials, training modules, and other resources are up-to-date, accurate, and align with the department's objectives.
Maintain accurate records and generate reports pertaining to educational outreach, training sessions, recruitment activities, or public information dissemination as applicable.
Work closely with other departments and team members to achieve common goals, share insights, and optimize resources.
Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills, tailored to a wide range of audiences.
Adhere to departmental policies, guidelines, and procedures, as well as local, state, and federal laws and regulations relevant to the area of assignment.
Stay informed about the latest best practices, technologies, and methodologies in fire safety education, recruitment, or public information dissemination.
Identifies and assists community members who require specialized resources or interventions.
Performs initial and ongoing medical evaluations, particularly for high-risk individuals, and provides tailored educational interventions to improve health outcomes.
Educates and supports patients and families in managing chronic conditions.
Educates community members about mental health services and facilitates referrals.
Maintains an up-to-date database of community healthcare and social resources.
Regularly evaluates community health needs to adapt programs.
Implements prevention programs addressing alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs.
Minimum Qualifications High School diploma or GED.
Have at least 2 years of experience in emergency medical services (ambulance, medical first responder unit, hospital, or similar experience).
Licenses and Certifications Valid driver's license.
State of Georgia Firefighter Certification or the equivalent certification from another state is preferred.
State of Georgia Emergency Medical Technician or the equivalent from another state is preferred.
State of Georgia Fire & Life Safety Educator Certification (or equivalent from another state) is preferred or must be obtained within one year of hire.
State of Georgia Fire Safety Educator Certification - obtained within one year of hire.
Georgia Advanced EMT license
required. Georgia Paramedic license preferred. Successful completion of At-Risk Adult Tactics, and Crisis Intervention Team within one year of hire.
Physical Abilities Tasks require the regular and sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds).
Sensory Requirements Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, odor, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
Environmental Factors Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, fumes, smoke, temperature and noise extremes, hazardous materials, fire, unsafe structures, heights, confined spaces, traffic hazards, bright and dim lights, toxic agents, animal and wildlife attacks, animal and human bites, explosives, or rude and irate customers.
