Assistant Professor of Biology
The Biology Program in the Dr. James "Earl" Perry College of Mathematics, Computing, and Sciences at the University of West Georgia invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Biology in Ecology, Evolutionary Biology, Conservation Biology, or a closely related field, beginning in Fall 2027.
We seek an engaged teacher-scholar whose research addresses fundamental or applied questions in ecology, evolution, organismal biology, conservation science, wildlife and fisheries biology, natural resource management, or related disciplines. The ideal candidate will develop a dynamic and productive research program that leverages the rich biological diversity and environmental resources of the southeastern United States. We welcome applicants employing field-based, laboratory, computational, quantitative, or interdisciplinary approaches that enhance opportunities for student involvement in research and experiential learning. The successful candidate will contribute to undergraduate and graduate education by teaching courses such as Introductory Biology, Ecology and Evolution, organismal biology, field biology, and specialized courses aligned with their expertise. These courses will support the B.S. and M.S. in Biology, the Wildlife Ecology Certificate, and the University's developing Natural Resources Management Program. The successful applicant will be expected to establish an active research agenda that engages and mentors both undergraduate and graduate students, produces scholarly publications, pursues external funding, and contributes to the academic mission of the department, college, and university through teaching, research, and service.
Teach Introductory Biology, Evolution and Ecology, an organismal or field-based course, and courses in their specialty supporting the B.S. and M.S. Biology Programs, the Wildlife Ecology Certificate, and the emerging Natural Resources Management Program. Establish and maintain a funded research program in biology that incorporates undergraduate and graduate students. Opportunity to collaborate across disciplines within the program, college, and university. Pursue scholarly activity, including peer-reviewed publications. Collaborate and actively participate in service to the Program/School/College/University events (e.g., meetings, graduations, seminars), initiatives, and institutional committees. Provide effective mentoring to undergraduate and graduate students, fostering their success and timely graduation while helping them achieve their career goals.
Required Education: Ph.D. in any Biology and related disciplines with research expertise in Ecology, Evolution, or Conservation Biology. Required Experience: Demonstrated record or potential of excellence in scholarship with peer-reviewed research publications.
Preferred Experience: Post-doctoral research experience in Ecology, Evolution, or Conservation Biology. Prior teaching experience at undergraduate and/or graduate level.
