License: Registered as an ARRT-R (with VI or CV credential) or RCIS (Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist).
Certifications: Must have appropriate certifications in the field.
Must-Have: Intermediate knowledge of x-ray equipment and troubleshooting.
Description: The Interventional Vascular Specialist II precepts new staff and students. They assist in more advanced procedures such as pulmonary thrombectomy, AAA, TEVAR, and FEVAR. They are capable of assisting with complex procedures, including multiple wire exchanges and the use of long wires and OTW balloons. Specialty devices such as laser, penumbra, Inari, and shockwave are utilized. They circulate, monitor, and scrub all Interventional Vascular procedures. Troubleshooting imaging equipment in collaboration with biomedical engineers for service is required. Participation in procedural charging and maintenance of supply management is expected. They must act quickly in emergency situations. Discussion of the plan of action with the physician and assistance with high-risk procedures is crucial. Cross-training may be required to support departmental needs. Understanding and working with the x-ray system, including the panning table and recognizing different angles, is necessary. Management of access sites, including proper removal of sheaths and assessment of hematoma, is required, along with knowledge of hematoma management. Knowledge of radiation safety concepts is essential. They should be knowledgeable in vascular anatomy and able to recognize different types of lesions. Basic knowledge of supply features and applications to procedures is expected. Adherence to sterile technique is necessary. Effective communication with the team, patients, families, and medical staff is required.
