Communications and Community Engagement InternLocation: City of GriffinDescriptionThe individual in this position provides project-based support for communications, public information, marketing, community engagement, and downtown engagement initiatives. The Communications & Community Engagement Intern assists with content creation, photography, videography, graphic design, social media, event support, research, and administrative projects while gaining practical experience in local government communications and community engagement.Assists with content creation for social media, website updates, newsletters, and promotional materials.Assists with photography and videography of City projects, programs, events, meetings, and community initiatives.Assists with graphic design projects and the development of digital and print marketing materials.Supports website updates, content organization, and digital information management activities.Assists with event planning, public engagement activities, and citywide initiatives.Assists with downtown events, promotions, and Main Street Program activities as assigned.Conducts research and gathers information to support communications projects, presentations, campaigns, and reports.Assists with monitoring social media engagement and preparing basic performance summaries.Assists with maintaining photo, video, document, and communication archives.Assists with administrative tasks, data entry, meeting preparation, and special projects.Participates in department meetings and contributes creative ideas to support effective communication and community engagement efforts.Represents the City in a professional manner during events and community activities.Performs related duties as assigned.Position RequirementsFinger dexterity and needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator, and to operate standard office equipment.Work performed in an office setting while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, walking, bending, or crouching. The employee occasionally lifts light objects.Knowledge of social media platforms and digital communication tools.Experience with Canva, graphic design, photography, videography, or short‑form video editing preferred.Knowledge of accessibility standards and best practices for public communications, including ADA‑compliant messaging and digital content requirements.Ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences; proficiency in additional languages or alternative communication methods that enhance accessibility is preferred.Knowledge of Canva, Adobe products, photography, videography, or graphic design tools preferred.Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interpret such information.Proficiency in typing, data entry, electronic communications, and the use of computers and general computer software, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and email.Strong sense of initiative and ability to prioritize and perform work independently, and within a team.Ability to multitask multiple projects or issues simultaneously and meet firm deadlines, prioritizing as necessary.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, residents, media representatives, community partners, business owners, and the public.Current enrollment in or recent graduation from an accredited college, university, or technical program in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, Public Administration, Graphic Design, Digital Media, Political Science, or a related field.Interest in public service, civic engagement, local government, or community outreach.Possession of a valid State of Georgia driver's license with acceptable driving history and the ability to drive a vehicle as needed is highly preferred.This position will represent the City at a variety of events that will include work outside of normal business hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
