Mid‑Level Electrical Engineer (Generation) WSP is currently searching for a Mid‑Level Electrical Engineer (Generation) to join our Power & Energy team in Oradell, NJ. The position can also be considered in Atlanta, GA.Job Summary This role involves supporting technical staff, engineers, and project managers across the full project lifecycle for utility, industrial, and commercial‑scale projects. Key responsibilities include due diligence, investigation, permitting, design, development, and construction of power generation and distribution systems.Responsibilities Produce, coordinate, review, and/or approve electrical design plans for complex power plant projects.Apply high‑level electrical engineering techniques across all project phases, from preliminary design to commissioning support and record drawings.Support project scoping, budgeting, and proposals.Develop power plant electrical drawings (one‑lines, breaker control schematics, bus duct layouts, equipment elevations, cable schedules).Develop equipment specifications for power and control cables, auxiliary transformers, isolated phase bus ducts, generator circuit breakers, and power distribution centers.Oversee larger‑scale electrical engineering projects, ensuring team deliverables, budgets, hours, and expenses are tracked and quality standards met.Review permit applications, design plans, specifications, standby plans, and construction contracts.Meet with clients, vendors, and subcontractors to discuss status and explain engineering decisions.Prepare technical reports and presentations that clearly explain research, findings, and recommendations.Maintain high quality and responsiveness to client requirements in line with applicable standards.Identify business development opportunities and develop a client base for high‑level services.Mentor staff for professional growth.Required Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.5 to 7 years of post‑education experience as a power engineer on capital projects in power generation.Professional Engineer license (multiple states preferred).Proficiency in power engineering principles, design/build process, permitting, and project work.Experience designing infrastructure for Combined Cycle and Simple Cycle Gas Turbines or Heat Recovery Steam Generators.Experience in infrastructure planning, design, and construction management, coordinating with mechanical and civil structural engineers.Strong knowledge of engineering and electrical construction laws, codes, and regulations (IEEE, NEC, NEMA, IEC, etc.).Ability to perform technical computations, interpret plans and specifications, and compare results to regulations.Experience conducting inspections and investigations of construction and design.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for technical and non‑technical audiences.Ability to lead and influence clients and teams, maintaining QA/QC standards.Proficiency with design software (PTW/SKM, ETAP, SES CDEGS, AutoCAD electrical, Bentley MicroStation, SmartPlant, Revit).Skill in reviewing vendor documents and preparing complex technical deliverables.Strong critical thinking and problem‑solving abilities.Experience coordinating subcontractors to complete tasks safely and efficiently.Proven experience in electrical studies (short circuit, load flow, motor start analysis, relay coordination, arc flash).Experience in power system protection and control.Preferred Qualifications Master's Degree in Engineering.40‑Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) preferred.Benefits WSP provides a comprehensive suite of benefits focused on health and financial stability: medical, dental, vision, disability, and life coverage; retirement savings; paid sick leave; paid vacation; paid parental leave; and paid bereavement, voting, or naturalization leave.Compensation Expected Salary (all locations): $86,100 - $150,590.
