Laurel, NJ.Your ImpactDesign mechanical piping and equipment for renewable and fossil power generation facilities.Evaluate, select, and apply engineering techniques, procedures, industry codes and standards to projects.Perform high‑complexity engineering designs including analysis, calculations, research, and equipment selection.Develop P&IDs for power plant systems including steam cycles, boiler feed, condensate, water treatment, fuel gas, hydrogen, and utilities.Prepare sizing calculations and specifications for major equipment such as heat recovery steam generators, condensers, cooling towers, tanks, blowers, and pumps.Prepare construction/installation scopes of work for mechanical systems.Check design deliverables against industry codes and standards, contract requirements, and company standards.Coordinate with other drafters, designers, and engineers and review work progress and results.Provide technical mentoring and/or oversight.Perform professional mechanical engineering work and conduct investigations and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, equipment, resources, facilities, building, infrastructure, usage, and mechanical systems to determine conformance with applicable codes, standards, and permits.Develop construction and installation plans, specifications, and cost estimates; prepare construction safety and phasing plans; update infrastructure layout plans requiring coordination with owners, other disciplines, sub‑consultants, and clients.Involve from project inception to completion in the management of mechanical design and construction of building and infrastructure projects, including rehabilitation, reconstruction, new builds, operating specifications, building materials, phasing, and construction safety plans.Oversee the development and implementation of advanced technologies, monitoring devices, building materials, modeling techniques, design requirements, load calculations, and operating strategies to ensure proper installation and functioning of equipment and systems; implement future‑ready solutions with mechanical engineering design standards.Lead larger‑scale mechanical engineering projects, ensuring contributors know their responsibilities and deadlines, preparing and overseeing relevant project budgets, monitoring external events, tracking hours and expenses, ensuring satisfactory performance, supervising subcontractors, contract work, and employees.Meet with various public or private entities or individuals to discuss issues related to engineering or construction challenges and programs.Ensure technical reports and presentations explain research, findings, and recommendations to prevent, control, restore, or address engineering, design, and construction issues or opportunities.Develop a client base for providing high‑level mechanical engineering services, including identifying additional business development opportunities.Mentor staff to support their growth and professional development.Collaborate with professionals from a variety of disciplines, other engineers, planners, building, and infrastructure authorities on federally or locally funded improvement and development projects, as well as proposal and business development opportunities.Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.Who You AreWe are looking for a proactive, detail‑oriented professional who can manage complex mechanical design projects while collaborating across disciplines and driving technical excellence.Required QualificationsBachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline.10+ years of relevant post‑education experience in mechanical design for industrial facilities.Licensed engineer required (multi‑state preferred).Working knowledge of MicroStation or AutoCAD.Working knowledge of Smart Plant 3D or CADworx.Experience using Caesar II or AutoPipe.Experience using Thermoflow.Highly proficient with mechanical engineering principles, practices, design/build, and application to permitting and project work‑related issues.Strong knowledge of relevant mechanical engineering laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record‑keeping requirements.High proficiency in technical computations and calculations involving engineering principles.Experience with planning and conducting inspections and investigations of construction and design aspects of facilities, structures and systems.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with stakeholders.Strong self‑leadership and communication skills, with ability to influence clients, regulators, project managers, and staff.Independent and able to provide guidance and leadership to mid‑ to senior‑level team or project members while adhering to QA/QC.Experience providing critical review for documents and preparing technical deliverables of high complexity.Well‑developed critical thinking and problem‑solving skills to analyze data, load calculations, and statistical analysis.Proven ability to coordinate and direct subcontractors and ensure safe and efficient task completion.Track record of upholding workplace safety and adherence to WSP's health, safety and policies.Flexible schedule to meet business needs and prioritize responsibilities under pressure.Occasional travel may be required depending on project requirements.Preferred QualificationsMaster's Degree in Engineering.Power plant design experience.Renewable natural gas plant design experience.WSP BenefitsComprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision, disability, and life coverage;
