This role delivers complex civil engineering solutions for transit infrastructure, complete streets, and active transportation projects across the Atlanta metropolitan area, including highways, tunnels, mass transit systems, and multimodal corridors. The engineer serves as a technical authority, exercising independent judgment on multidisciplinary teams.You will lead and support projects for clients such as MARTA, the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC), Georgia DOT (GDOT), and the City of Atlanta Department of Transportation (ATLDOT). Projects include heavy and light rail, BRT, ADA accessibility programs, roadway reconstruction, and multimodal complete streets incorporating active transportation.Essential Job FunctionsLead complex transit infrastructure, multimodal corridor, and active transportation projects as project engineer of record.Direct design of MARTA rail and bus infrastructure, BRT corridors, transit stations, and passenger amenities.Oversee complete streets and multimodal corridor designs integrating pedestrian, bicycle, and transit accommodations per ADA and applicable federal, state, and local standards.Lead technical review of construction plans, specifications, cost estimates, and contract documents.Review and approve designs for regulatory compliance; ensure firm quality standards are upheld.Exercise senior-level judgment in resolving complex design challenges, conflicts, and technical issues across multidisciplinary project teams.Direct site investigations and field reviews to ensure design alignment; approve design requirement updates.Inspect construction and provide technical judgment on findings and corrective actions.Coordinate with MARTA, GDOT, ATLDOT, ARC, regulatory agencies, and community partners throughout project delivery.Manage subconsultant teams and interdisciplinary coordination across complex, multi-phase programs.Contribute to technical knowledge management by authoring white papers, design documentation, and guidance documents.Publish technical work in professional journals and represent the firm at conferences and industry events.Mentor mid-level and junior staff; review and approve their work.Support business development including proposal preparation, client presentations, and pursuit strategy.Perform other duties as required.QualificationsBachelor's degree in Civil, Transportation, or Structural Engineering.PE license.10 years of related experience.Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands.Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.Preferred QualificationsProfessional Engineer (PE) license in Georgia, or ability to obtain licensure by reciprocity within 6 months of hire.12 or more years of directly related professional experience in civil or transportation engineering, with a significant portion focused on transit and multimodal infrastructure in the Atlanta metropolitan region.Direct project experience with MARTA, GDOT, ATLDOT, ARC, or related Atlanta-area transit and transportation agencies.Experience delivering federally funded transit and transportation capital projects under FTA or FHWA program requirements.Familiarity with NEPA processes, environmental permitting, and right-of-way acquisition in the Georgia regulatory context.Experience with design-build, P3, or alternative project delivery methods on transit or transportation infrastructure.Background in stormwater management, green infrastructure, or sustainable design practices in urban corridor applications, including Georgia EPD and City of Atlanta stormwater requirements.Proficiency in GIS tools such as ArcGIS or QGIS for spatial analysis and project mapping.Published technical papers or white papers in relevant civil, transportation, or transit engineering fields.PTOE, PMP, or related specialty certification.Skills & AbilitiesTechnical ProficiencyExpert proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, and/or OpenRoads Designer.Knowledge of AASHTO, PROWAG, MUTCD, FTA guidelines, and GDOT standards.Expertise in roadway, drainage, grading, and utility design for urban transit and multimodal infrastructure.Knowledge of complete streets and Vision Zero design principles and active transportation planning frameworks.Understanding of ADA and PROWAG requirements applied to public right-of-way and transit infrastructure.Knowledge of Atlanta-specific design standards and regulatory environment for MARTA, GDOT, and ATLDOT projects.Project & Client ManagementAbility to lead large, complex multidisciplinary projects from planning through construction administration.Experience managing scope, schedule, and budget on transit and transportation projects.Client relationship management experience as a primary contact for major public sector programs.Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical reports, specifications, and presentations for clients, regulators, and professional audiences.Experience managing and mentoring teams across multiple concurrent projects.Leadership & Professional EngagementEstablished presence in the Atlanta transportation/transit engineering community.Active participation in professional organizations (e.g., ASCE, WTS, COMTO, APTA).Technical publication, conference presentation, or committee leadership experience.Business development experience including opportunity identification, client relationship building, and proposal strategy.Amount Of Travel Required10% or lessEEO StatementWe attract the best people in the industry, supporting their efforts to learn and grow.
