As an integral member of our Comptroller's group, you will play a vital role in the financial accounting of Southern Power, a prominent SEC registrant known for its commitment to excellence and innovation in the energy sector. Southern Power, a subsidiary of Southern Company, boasts a diverse portfolio of more than 50 solar, wind, and natural gas facilities, demonstrating our leadership in sustainable energy solutions.We are seeking talented individuals to fill a staff accounting position within our team. These are hybrid positions that require 4 in-office working days each week in the Atlanta, Georgia office.JOB RESPONSIBILITIESPerform activities associated with financial accounting for various key areas for Southern Power Company and its subsidiaries, including monthly journal entries, analysis of financial transactions and results, account reconciliations and other accounting duties as assigned (may include activities to incorporate acquired entities).Ensure that all internal controls surrounding responsibilities are adequate and functioning.Provide management with detailed actual to budget or actual to actual variance explanations as requested.Provide and assist in obtaining relevant accounting and disclosure information that supports or may be included in Southern Power's 10-Q, 10-K or partnership financials.Prepare quarterly and annual external audit requests as requested, ensuring timely response and maintenance of good working relationship with the external auditor.JOB REQUIREMENTSEducation:Bachelor's degree in accounting (or related field) is required.Advanced degree is a plus.CPA license (or equivalent) is a plus.Experience, Knowledge, and Skills:2 or more years of accounting experience is preferred.Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) is preferred.Experience in preparing journal entries and account reconciliations is preferred.Experience in performing analysis on financial transactions and results is preferred.Experience with accounting systems and tools (Oracle Cloud and Excel) is preferred.Knowledge of the utility industry and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) System of Accounts is a plus.Knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley 404 compliance requirements is a plus.Positive, professional attitude with strong interpersonal and communication skills is required; team player.Proactive working style with ability to handle multiple projects and competing deadlines is required; self-directed.Strong organizational and problem-solving skills are required.Model all aspects of Southern Company Values: Safety First, Intentional Inclusion, Act with Integrity, and Superior Performance.Southern Company is an equal opportunity employer where an applicant's qualifications are considered without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, genetic information, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other basis prohibited by law.Benefits: This position may be eligible for additional compensation, such as an incentive program, with the amount of any bonus/awards subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable incentive plan.
