Job Title: AccountantLocation: Atlanta, GARegular/Temporary: RegularFull/Part Time: Full-TimeJob ID: 297262Job SummaryThe Accountant is responsible for overseeing accounting functions, analysis and reconciliation of financial transactions; examination, investigation, audit and review of records, reports, financial statements, information systems, and management practices to ensure compliance with regulations and policies and efficient and effective operations. This role is critical in developing and implementing procedures to ensure uniform accounting practices, internal controls, and compliance with federal, state, local regulations and Institute policies.ResponsibilitiesAnalyze, reconcile, balance, and maintain accounting records.Analyze expenditures for appropriateness and compliance within each individual requirement, such as research contracts and other general accounts.Interpret Institute, University System of Georgia (USG), state, and/or federal regulations to ensure that pertinent information is disseminated to appropriate Institute offices and ensure compliance.Conduct financial analysis of projects and prepare special reports.Prepare and post journal entries; perform monthly, quarterly, and year‑end closings.Lead and/or support the development, implementation, and maintenance of internal fiscal systems and procedures, applying basic and advanced concepts, methods, and techniques of accounting.Review and analyze Institute procedures for compliance with various internal and external regulations and policies.Develop procedures to keep management updated on the financial and contractual status of projects.Evaluate the effectiveness of established accounting procedures, internal controls, efficiency of operations, and accuracy of reports and records, and recommend changes as needed.Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.Required QualificationsBachelor's Degree in a related discipline or equivalent; advanced certification may be preferred or required.Four or more years of relevant job experience.Preferred QualificationsBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.3+ years of experience in tax accounting, including payroll, sales and use tax, unemployment tax, and complex individual tax returns.Experience working in a higher education environment.Proficiency with accounting and tax software (e.g., QuickBooks, ADP, or similar systems).Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities, with the capacity to manage multiple priorities.Demonstrated ability to improve processes and drive operational efficiency.Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.Pay Range$47,000-$65,000/yr.Other InformationThis is not a supervisory position.This position has financial responsibilities.This role is considered a position of trust.This position does not require a purchasing card (P‑Card).This position does not require security clearance.Equal Employment OpportunityGeorgia Tech is an Equal Employment Opportunity Employer.
