Maintenance Specialist 3 (Planner)

Job Summary
The Maintenance Specialist 3 (Planner) is responsible for driving maintenance strategies, optimizing equipment performance, and minimizing downtime. This role involves detailed planning, scheduling, and coordination of maintenance activities, with a focus on routine and outage planning. The ideal candidate has 6-10 years of experience in plant maintenance and operations, along with strong leadership, organizational, and technical expertise.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance Strategy & Leadership
- Develop and implement strategic maintenance plans to enhance equipment longevity and minimize downtime.
- Lead maintenance projects and initiatives, ensuring alignment with plant operational goals.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to junior maintenance staff.
- Engage with senior management on maintenance needs, strategies, and budget planning.
- Assess and implement new technologies and methods for improved maintenance efficiency.
- Foster strong relationships with equipment vendors and service providers.
Planning & Scheduling
- Administer the work order management system, including processing prioritized work orders, updating equipment records, and maintaining the equipment historical database.
- Develop and maintain the Plant's Four-Week Plan, scheduling all maintenance activities across departments and reporting trends and metrics.
- Provide detailed work plans and work packages, coordinate material ordering and staging, and facilitate communication between maintenance groups and Planning & Scheduling.
- Develop outage work packages and plans for Planned, Forced, and Maintenance outages, utilizing Critical Path Method (CPM) schedules when appropriate.
- Provide coordination during outages and manage on-site and off-site contract labor needs (e.g., equipment rebuilds, parts refurbishment).
Reliability Optimization & Continuous Improvement
- Actively support Plant Reliability Optimization (PRO) as a System Owner or in direct support of system reliability efforts.
- Improve equipment maintenance strategies through enhanced repetitive task revisions.
- Optimize spare parts, materials, and equipment stocking levels.
- Conduct weekly planning meetings to review and refine maintenance schedules and activities.
- Review closed work orders to identify follow-up work requirements.
Qualifications & Skills
Education & Experience
- 6-10 years of experience in plant maintenance and operations.
- Advanced degree or certifications in a relevant field preferred.
Technical Expertise
- Strong knowledge of equipment maintenance, planning, and scheduling.
- Experience with work order management systems and planning software.
- Ability to develop and manage maintenance budgets.
- Understanding of contract administration and vendor/contractor management.
Soft Skills & Competencies
- Strong organizational, administrative, and facilitation skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively across all levels (craft personnel, supervisory, staff, and management).
- Self-motivated and proactive, with the ability to work independently.
- Ability to multi-task and manage multiple priorities in a high-pressure environment.
Additional Requirements
- Must be able to work extended hours, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Occasional on-call rotation may be required.
