Hourly Residency Officer
The Hourly Residency Officer is responsible for investigating reports of children attending Atlanta Public Schools and do not qualify under the guidelines of Georgia Education Law. The Residency Officer shall assist the district with the verification of residency issues, registration and/or re-registration of student(s) as determined and assigned by the Director of Student Assignment and Records.
Minimum Requirements:
- Education: High School diploma or GED required. Associate's or College Degree preferred.
- Certification/License: Valid driver's license and availability of private transportation. Georgia PSC Clearance Certification required.
- Work Experience: 2 years of investigative experience required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
- Computer/data entry skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Suite, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Essential Duties:
- Investigate reports of children attending the school system that purportedly do not qualify under the guidelines of Georgia Education Law.
- Investigate cases in a variety of manners, including use of computer technology, interviews, surveillance, telecommunications, and review of school and public records and develop photographic evidence as necessary.
- Maintain a detailed log and provide a written report indicating steps taken, time expended, current status, and resolution of assigned cases to verify domicile or possible truancy of student(s).
- Receives photo identification that shall be shown when investigating or otherwise conducting activities on behalf of APS.
- Attends meetings with and/or contact Parent(s)/Guardian(s) when requested.
- Cases will be assigned through the designee of the Student Assignment and Records office.
- Provides a written report on each case assigned.
- Provides as requested and maintain an ongoing log of cases, status, and resolutions.
- Becomes familiar with the district's policies and regulations as they pertain to the position.
- Performs random check as necessary for new registrants as well as follow up on residency issues.
- Required to have prompt, regular attendance in-person and be available to work on-site, in-person during regular business hours, and as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned by an appropriate administrator or their representative.
Physical Abilities and Working Conditions:
- Vision: Ability to read small print and view a computer screen for prolonged periods.
- Hearing: Ability to tolerate exposure to noisy conditions.
- Speech: Ability to be understood in face-to-face communications, to speak with a level of proficiency and volume to be understood over a telephone or computer.
- Upper Body Mobility: Ability to use hands to grasp and manipulate small objects; manipulate fingers, twist and bend at wrist and elbow; extend arms to reach outward and upward; use hands and arms to lift objects; turn, raise, and lower head.
- Strength: Ability to lift, push, pull and/or carry objects which weigh as much as 15 or more pounds on a frequent basis.
- Environmental Requirements: Ability to encounter constant work interruptions; work cooperatively with others; work independently; work indoors.
- Mental Requirements: Ability to read, write, understand, interpret and apply information at a moderately complex level essential for successful job performance; math skills at a high school proficiency level; judgement and the ability to process information quickly; learn quickly and follow verbal procedures and standards; give verbal instruction; rank tasks in order of importance; copy, compare, compile and coordinate information and records. Understand how to manage stress.
- Additional Work Conditions & Physical Abilities: Will require travel to multiple sites.
Compensation:
Salary Grade: $35.56 per hour
Salary Range: Salary Schedules - Atlanta Public Schools
Work Days: 29 hours per week
