Overall Purpose To provide support to the instructional process by serving as a teacher with specific responsibility for developing special education students' success in academics interpersonal skills, and activities of daily living; supervising students within the classroom and other assigned areas. Develops lesson plans and delivers group and individual student instruction within established curriculum guidelines.
Essential Functions - Assists in the coordination of the exceptional education program for compliance with Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA).
- Conducts demonstration teaching sessions for teachers.
- Serves as liaison between the building administration and the central office for all decisions related to services for students with disabilities.
- Coordinates IEP meetings.
- Supports Special Olympic activities.
- Serves as case manager for students who receive consultation special education services.
Requirements Valid Georgia professional certification in the assigned teaching field.
Physical Requirements Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity.
Generally the job requires 20% sitting, 40% walking, and 40% standing.
Education/Training Maintains all licenses and certifications.
