Deputy Head of Legal
Full Time | $150k-$300k + equity
At Corgi, we've raised $268M to build an AI financial infrastructure company.
Our goal is to rebuild the $1T+ insurance industry from the ground up using AI. We're not just building a company; we're building infrastructure for the next hundred years.
We're well-funded and backed by top investors, providing the resources you wish you had when building your own business. We don't care about traditional roles or titles, just that you're smart, proactive, and bring the same founder-level ownership and drive to help us build something massive.
As we scale, the disputes that shape our trajectory will land on this team's desk. If you have a strong track record in commercial litigation, deep comfort with complexity, and want to help build something foundational, we'd love to talk to you.
What You'll Do
As Deputy Head of Legal at Corgi, you will partner directly with the Head of Legal and company leadership to run the legal function. You'll own a broad portfolio spanning commercial disputes, corporate matters, regulatory work, and the day-to-day legal operations of a fast-growing multi-entity insurance group. You'll step in as the senior legal voice when the Head of Legal is unavailable and help build the team and infrastructure as we scale.
Key Responsibilities
• Manage commercial and business litigation matters end-to-end: case strategy, pleadings, motion practice, discovery, depositions, hearings, arbitration, and trial.
• Handle the full range of business disputes: contract, commercial, partnership, vendor, IP, and other inter-company matters.
• Conduct early case assessments; give leadership clear-eyed views on exposure, risk, and resolution paths.
• Run pre-litigation strategy: demand letters, settlement negotiations, mediation, and arbitration.
• Manage and direct outside counsel; control budgets, set strategy, and hold work product to a high standard.
• Own litigation hold protocols, document preservation, and e-discovery in coordination with the Head of Legal.
• Build internal playbooks, templates, and processes so we handle recurring dispute patterns at scale rather than one-off.
• Partner cross-functionally with operations, product, and compliance to identify dispute risk early and resolve issues before they escalate.
What We're Looking For
• JD from an accredited law school; admitted to practice and in good standing in California or Delaware.
• Substantive experience handling commercial / business litigation matters end-to-end. We're open to a range: junior litigators with strong courtroom instincts and senior litigators looking for a high-ownership in-house role are both welcome.
• First-chair or significant second-chair experience in matters that reached motion practice, arbitration, hearing, or trial.
• Strong judgment, excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to distill litigation risk and counsel non-legal stakeholders effectively.
• Comfortable with ambiguity and rapid change; you'll be expected to balance speed with legal soundness.
• Demonstrated ability to manage outside counsel and translate litigation strategy into business outcomes.
Why You Should Join
• Founder Mentality: We value extreme ownership and want people who think like founders: fast decision makers, natural problem solvers, and executers.
• Ground Floor Opportunity: You'll be helping to shape and grow a revolutionary company with the resources to back it.
• Impact & Speed:Work in a fast-paced environment where your contributions will have immediate, tangible effects on the company's success.
