Job Summary
GIS plays a vital role in Georgia Power Company's strategic direction and technology plan. This position is responsible for leading a team of GIS, technology, and modeling employees within Geographic Solutions & Services (GSS). The team of 10 employees provide GIS support to Power Delivery Field Operations in Metro East, Metro South and West Distribution Areas along with special program support such as Grid. This position is also a leader of leaders with a GIS Team Lead and a GIS Coordinator reporting to it.
GIS activities include creating, editing, maintaining, and supporting assets in support of the GIS Distribution and TCMS Outage Management models.
This position provides GIS and technical direction for internal customers and ensures that the direction and support delivered is consistent and aligned with departmental goals. This position must maintain good relationships with leaders, field resources, and internal partners that rely on GIS data and GSS products to accomplish their goals. This position collaborates with other GSS leaders to support its core values of quality GIS data, modeling, and insights to Georgia Power.
This position is located at 755 Jefferson Street office in Atlanta, GA. The successful candidate will have regular travel to employee locations with the assigned services area.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in GSS field required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, GIS, Geography, Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Geomatics/Mathematics preferred.
- 3+ years of Power Delivery experience is preferred.
- Experience working in multiple departments within Power Delivery and/or Customer Strategy and Solutions is a plus.
- Working knowledge or experience with GSS products and services such as DistGIS, Express Sketch, DistView, GIS Web, ArcFM Mobile, etc. is a plus
- Working knowledge or experience with Power Delivery applications such as JETS, NMS, ARMS, etc. is preferred
- Leadership experience is a plus
- Must be able to lead and develop a diverse workforce, maximize team effectiveness, set high expectations for those around them and hold employees accountable for those expectations.
- Comprehensive knowledge of general business concepts and practical applications to support strategic planning, goal setting, governance, and compliance.
- Strong customer service focus with good communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to be a change agent. Must be able to help others understand a vision and motivate them to pursue the vision.
- Ability to recognize situations where GIS will add value and work with users and other team members to exploit GIS opportunities.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide leadership to the GSS employees including Team Lead in assigned area. This includes, but not limited to, performance management, coaching, goal setting, training, and employee development.
- Ensure all GSS requirements including data integrity and data accuracy is prioritized
- Ensure operational and application support are satisfied in a timely and in a professional manner.
- Collaborates with all internal customers and field resources to continuously improve processes, workflows, and decisions through GIS and technology.
- Serves as a conduit for future GIS application development between the field operations and the GSS support staff.
- Actively engaged in storm restoration efforts and GSS SERP responsibilities.
