Compliance Manager, Operations

As part of our exciting growth, we are currently searching for a Compliance Manager, Operations.
The Compliance Manager is the enterprise owner of Aligned Data Center’s Operations Compliance Program, responsible for establishing, governing, and scaling a standardized compliance framework across all sites.
This position is accountable for ensuring all facilities operate in full compliance with regulatory, environmental, and contractual requirements. This includes ownership of air quality permitting, operating permits, customer contractual obligations, and vendor compliance.
This role will transform compliance from a reactive, site-driven activity into a centralized, data-driven program with full visibility, accountability, and enforcement across the portfolio.
This role will be based hybrid out of one of our designated Aligned Data Centers locations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Enterprise Compliance Ownership and Governance
- Establish and own the enterprise Operations Compliance Program across all sites.
- Develop standardized compliance frameworks, processes, and enforcement mechanisms.
- Ensure consistent execution of compliance requirements across all markets.
- Serve as the single point of accountability for Operations-related compliance risk.
- Build centralized visibility into compliance status, risks, and gaps across the portfolio.
- Environmental and Air Quality Compliance
- Own all air quality permitting requirements across the portfolio, including permit acquisition, renewals, and modifications.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local air quality regulations and permit conditions.
- Implement and standardize generator hour tracking, emissions tracking, and environmental reporting processes.
- Monitor generator usage against permitted limits and proactively mitigate risk of exceedances.
- Lead regulatory reporting, including emissions inventories, deviation reports, and required filings.
- Serve as primary point of contact for regulatory agencies and inspections.
- Operating Permits and Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure all facilities maintain required operating permits and remain compliant with jurisdictional requirements.
- Track permit conditions, renewal timelines, and regulatory obligations across all sties.
- Develop centralized systems to monitor compliance status in real time.
- Partner with site leadership to ensure adherence to all permit conditions and regulatory requirements.
- Customer Contract and Vendor Compliance
- Own compliance with customer contractual obligations related to operations and maintenance execution.
- Ensure vendor scopes, service delivery, and maintenance practices align with contractual requirements and SLAs.
- Establish validation processes to confirm contracted work is executed correctly and consistently.
- Identify gaps between contracted scope and actual execution, and drive corrective actions.
- Partner with Maintenance and Operations teams to ensure alignment between contracts, runbooks, and execution.
- Compliance Monitoring, Auditing, and Reporting
- Develop and implement a standardized compliance audit program across all sites.
- Conduct regular audits of environmental, regulatory, and contractual compliance.
- Establish dashboards and reporting mechanisms to provide real-time compliance visibility.
- Ensure accurate and timely submission of all regulatory reports and documentation.
- Lead investigation of compliance deviations, including root cause analysis and corrective action plans.
- Data Management and Systems
- Develop centralized systems for tracking compliance data, including permits, emissions, vendor performance, and contractual obligations.
- Ensure accuracy, consistency, and auditability of all compliance-related data.
- Leverage data to proactively identify risks, trends, and improvement opportunities.
- Cross-Functional Integration
- Partner with Operations, Maintenance, Platform Delivery, Legal and external stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance requirements are integrated into operational processes and decision-making.
- Drive accountability across teams without direct reporting authority.
- Continuous Improvement
- Identify gaps in compliance processes, systems, and execution.
- Implement standardized processes to reduce risk and improve consistency.
- Stay current with evolving regulatory requirements and assess impact to operations.
- Drive proactive compliance culture across the organization.

- No missed permit renewals or reporting deadlines

Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific or engineering field. Master's degree preferred.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive experience in environmental compliance management, with a strong emphasis on air quality regulations and permitting.
- Demonstrated experience managing air permits for industrial or commercial facilities, particularly those with standby generators.
- Proven experience in developing and implementing data tracking systems for environmental compliance.
- Technical Skills:
- In-depth knowledge of EPA, and local air quality regulations.
- Proficiency in environmental data management software and strong advanced Excel skills.
- Familiarity with SCADA/DCiM systems or other remote monitoring technologies for generator data collection is a plus.
- Soft Skills:
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex technical information to diverse audiences.
